Technical Expert: Linux Escalation Support

As a Technical Expert in our Customer Service & Support team, you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional customer experiences. Our organization is responsible for the strategy, design, and implementation of Microsoft's end-to-end customer experience.
We are seeking an experienced professional to join our team as a Technical Support Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for owning, troubleshooting, and solving complex customer technical issues. You will collaborate with internal teams and leverage troubleshooting tools and practices to provide timely and effective solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Response and Resolution: Investigate and resolve complex customer technical issues, acting as an advisor to customers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Readiness: Develop and maintain readiness programs, share knowledge through technical coaching and mentoring, and lead the creation of communities with peer delivery roles.
- Product/Process Improvement: Engage with engineering and supportability teams to investigate product defects and develop automation techniques and diagnostic tools driving product improvements.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience administering Linux, including boot process, file systems, network device, and protocol configuration.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to handle technically challenging and politically sensitive customer situations.
- Excellent communication skills, including written and spoken English.
- Demonstrable troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
- Cross-team collaboration and logical thinking.
- Possess a passion for technology and customer support, with a strong understanding of cloud computing fundamentals.
The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of Linux distributions and technical understanding of operating system/virtualization or networking areas. Familiarity with shell environments (BASH, sh, tcsh, ksh, etc.), script-based development environments and tools (PERL, Python, Ruby, PhP, etc.), and core OS services such as SSH, telnet, FTP, NFS, DNS, DHCP, Samba, and LDAP is also required. Experience with virtualization concepts, load balancing, geo-redundancy, CDN, and VPN technologies is highly valued.
