As a Country Director, you will play a key role in leading our operations in Costa Rica, developing strategic partnerships with national governments and other stakeholders, and ensuring effective delivery of our services.

Job Description

The Country Director will be responsible for leading the overall strategy and direction of our operations in Costa Rica. This includes developing and implementing our country program, managing relationships with national governments and partners, and ensuring compliance with UNOPS policies and procedures.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the country program, including setting goals, objectives, and priorities;
  • Lead and manage a team of professionals, providing guidance and support as needed;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with national governments, partners, and other stakeholders;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the country context, including political, economic, and social developments;
  • Ensure effective implementation of UNOPS programs and projects in the country, including financial management, human resources, and logistics;
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of UNOPS operations in the country, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions;
  • Represent UNOPS in various forums, including meetings with government officials, international organizations, and civil society groups;
  • Collaborate with other UN agencies and organizations to achieve common goals and objectives.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Advanced University degree (Master's Degree or equivalent) in Public Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Social Science, International Development, Project Management, or other relevant disciplines combined with ten (10) years of relevant experience;
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience that combines strategic and managerial leadership in international development, business development, operations, and/or program management in a large international and/or corporate organization;
  • At least three (3) years of senior leadership experience, including supervising senior professional staff and managing financial sustainability of operations, including at least 2 years in a country office;
  • Experience working in developing countries is desirable; Experience in dealing with infrastructure portfolios is desirable; Experience partnering with the public sector on developing, implementing, and/or evaluating projects and programs of high national relevance is a distinctive advantage;
  • Fluent in Spanish and English Language is required; Knowledge of any official UN language is an advantage.
Estimated Salary

$120,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
