Job Description:


The Indirect Tax VAT Specialist will primarily be responsible for VAT compliance E2E process: Data reconciliation, VAT Return (VATR) & Ancillary (other) Reports Preparation, VATR & others Review, VAT Due Paid / Refunded, VAT Accounting and audit support for LATAM countries.

Also, it is expected for this position to actively engaged with the country transition to the GSC and corresponding data remediation activities that comes with this process, from solving current "as is" scenarios to support the countries moved to the expected "to be" scenarios defined along the operation manager and project team.


It is also required the VAT specialist to have knowledge with property and advertising taxes, business license, and tax audits attendance experience regarding the supply of information requested by the Authorities.

Goal of the position:
VAT and other taxes compliance and eventually audit support to the Indirect Tax Team.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Impact: Own results and/or the results of a work team.

  • Leadership role: Focuses on individual/selfperformance. Collaborates and occasionally leads within a team.
  • Key Responsibilities (Functional):
  • Performs VAT Compliance process steps and analyzes general ledger, purchase orders, vouchers, tax returns, sourcing information or other data for appropriate tax technical treatment, timely and accurate reporting.
  • Support VAT nonCompliance resolution within various work groups and deployed countries.
  • Collaborates with teams and various work groups (Tax, RTR, STP, MDM, OTC, CRM, MTO, FTS, LEX, HTR) to resolve Tier 2 level issues.
  • Compliance to statutory (tax) regulations, 3M Global Financial Standards (GFS), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and other relevant regulations through controls mindset.
  • Participates/leads projects related to 3M's Business Transformation priorities (i.e., Polaris SAP deployment, Robotics & Process Automation (RPA), process standardization and various Lean Six Sigma (LSS) initiatives).
  • Flexibility to engage in adhoc activities (i.e., internal/external audit, tax audit, etc) when needed.
  • Point of contact between the GSC Operation team and stakeholders during the service transitions according to project plan.
  • Actively engage and lead the remediation tasks defined for each of the countries defined by the transition plan and project team.
  • Identify process gaps and provide recommendation for process improvement.
  • Provide any kind or performance/service reporting to the GSC Operations Manager.

Qualifications:

Education and experience:
Education

  • Degree in Finance/Accounting (BA or equivalent). Course content to include direct/ indirect tax.
  • Fluent in English; additional language skills preferred.
Technical knowledge and experience

  • Minimum of 34 years relevant working experience in a Tax function.
  • Experience in accounting/audit/consultancy firm is an advantage.
  • Bachelor level university/college degree in Tax or Accounting.
  • Working knowledge of theories/concepts and practices of Indirect Tax, particularly VAT.
  • Possesses knowledge of assigned area of responsibility and continues to expand knowledge of general 3M/multinational company (MNC) structure, organization, and business.
  • Knowledge in electronic invoicing, accounting systems
  • Ability to communicate in written and spoken English is a plus
  • Follows a variety of generally defined procedures under general guidance within disciplines of Indirect tax.
  • Works independently and output is occasionally reviewed while in progress.
  • The specialist is consulted for assistance in problem areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge in General Ledger Account Reconciliation tools (i.e, TRecs, Assurenet, Blackline, etc) is an advantage.
  • Proof experience on VAT remediation activities and problem solving for LATAM countries, ideally Mexico
  • Ability to create solutions for complex problems
  • Experience managing teams.
  • Knowledge/Training on AGILE Methodologies will be and added advantage
