POSITION OVERVIEW

The Enterprise Platforms & Security (EP&S) division is responsible for delivering essential capabilities to Pfizer. This includes business application platforms that support critical enterprise applications and processes, as well as infrastructure that facilitates secure internal and external business communications. EP&S is dedicated to safeguarding Pfizer's vital information assets through top-tier security measures, ensuring that security acts as a facilitator rather than an obstacle to achieving business objectives. This position requires an individual with a proven track record in an agile work environment, demonstrating a collaborative approach, adaptability to evolving circumstances, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.

The Manager of NAS Storage Engineering will oversee the design, engineering, operationalization, and ongoing enhancement of Pfizer's global NAS service, encompassing both internal and cloud-hosted solutions.

This role serves as a subject matter expert in large-scale NAS storage technologies, complemented by a comprehensive understanding of general IT principles within a global and diverse enterprise framework.

The responsibilities include supporting Pfizer's internal NAS storage as well as externally hosted cloud storage services. The individual will be tasked with creating service designs that align with specific business needs while adhering to established security and compliance standards.

Furthermore, this role will collaborate with various platform owners and domain specialists (e.g., Operating Systems, Middleware, Databases, Networking) to seamlessly integrate these solutions into a unified storage service offering. Regular interaction with Security, Identity, and Compliance teams will be essential to define and implement the necessary controls for specific business use cases. The individual will lead the operationalization of NAS storage services, facilitating the transition of newly engineered services into steady-state operations.

The role will also engage with key strategic operational support providers to ensure the efficient and effective utilization of storage resources, continuously seeking improvements to enhance value. This position reports directly to the Global NAS Service Lead, which is part of the Business Application Platforms (BAP) organization within Enterprise Platforms and Security (EP&S).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the mid-term strategy, design, engineering, implementation, operationalization, enhancement, and lifecycle management of Pfizer's global portfolio of storage services, both internally and externally hosted.
  • Provide direction and support to technology partners regarding the adoption of innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with Pfizer Security, Identity, and Compliance teams to define the necessary controls for various business use cases related to storage services.
  • Lead project teams in the design and implementation of new storage service providers, working in conjunction with Pfizer delivery teams and key business stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness of existing solutions.
  • Work alongside storage service providers to identify opportunities for increased efficiency, whether through transitioning to different service models or optimizing workloads as needed.
  • Offer guidance on new requests for additional capabilities and communicate broader strategic service enhancements.
  • Partner with client teams to evaluate new technologies and assess their operational viability.
  • Spearhead the technical engineering and implementation of any new storage technologies formally supported by Pfizer Digital.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of storage services through an active network of strategic partnerships and advisors, ensuring Pfizer remains informed about the latest trends in storage technologies and market developments.
  • Continuously assess new capabilities and provide recommendations on investment priorities.
  • Regularly evaluate activities within the NAS environment and automate processes where feasible.
  • Conduct complex data analysis as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an enterprise IT environment, preferably within a highly regulated industry such as finance or healthcare.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in enterprise Network Attached Storage (NAS) technology, particularly with EMC and NetApp, along with familiarity with cloud storage providers like AWS, Google, and Azure.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL ITSM concepts.
  • In-depth knowledge of UNIX/Linux and Windows security, including complex NAS permissions structures to ensure optimal security.
  • Comprehensive understanding of multiprotocol access to shares.
  • Solid grasp of Windows DFS for CIFS share mapping.
  • Familiarity with NFSv4 Kerberos.
  • Knowledge of security and credential management principles, including best practices for applying security and identity policies across various business controls.
  • Proficient in data management and transfer tools, as well as scripting in languages such as Perl, Python, KSH, and Windows VB & Batch.
  • Understanding of networking technologies related to hosting, including DNS, IPAM, load balancing, VPN, and Direct Connect or Point-to-Point services.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex planning details into operational terms for a global audience.
  • Demonstrated experience in an agile work environment, showcasing a collaborative mindset, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience providing technical support for NetApp and/or DELL NAS infrastructure.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in large-scale NAS migrations.
  • Strong scripting skills in languages such as Perl, Python, KSH, and Windows VB & Batch.
  • Experience with Ansible automation.
