What You'll Be Getting Up To

We're seeking a talented IT Director with technical leadership experience to guide our application teams in sunsetting our legacy stack over the next 2 years. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the stack's performance remains optimal under growing load and volumes, delivering continual improvements and features until the legacy stack can be fully transitioned.

In this role, you will also lead the development of software engineering practices and processes, driving delivery and quality improvements through metrics analysis, and shaping technical process and ways of working. Additionally, you will provide technical input into Project Management, Engineering Management, and Product Management, driving best practices and techniques across the organization.

Your Key Responsibilities

Line management of a medium to large development team composed of Software Engineers, QA, and Team Leads across multiple locations and time zones;Liaison and alignment with senior stakeholders in Project, Engineering, and Product Management; Lead shaping software engineering practices and processes working in various Agile methodologies;Measuring and driving delivery and quality improvements through metrics analysis; Definition, implementation, and evolution of development team technical processes and ways of working; Provision of technical input into Project Management, Engineering Management, and Product Management;Working with Engineering Management to drive best practice, techniques, and technology both on the team and around the company;Fostering a culture of open exchange of ideas, innovation, and continuous improvement;Ensuring the commercial needs of the business are balanced against ideal technical design, proposing sound phased or tactical implementations where necessary;Understanding the importance of non-functionals such as monitoring, alerting, logging etc.;Defining adequate strategies to deal with technical debt;Collaborating with Support to enhance Incident and Problem Management capabilities;Accountable for the quality of implementation and deployment of development work;Accountable for security, capacity, and performance of the system;Working in conjunction with Support and evolving Support engagement and operating model for your area of the business;Escalation point in Incident Management processes;Taking ownership of RCA activities in your respective areas of management;Following up on and owning completion of technical or process improvements identified as part of RCA;Motivating and driving the team with technical leadership;Managing recruitment efforts for teams as needed to ensure adequate staffing.

Demonstrable experience of managing teams;Strong engineering background acquired during a previous hands-on development role;Managerial and leadership skills to motivate and lead personal development plans for employees;Driving change and handling difficult situations;Ability to demonstrate value of changes introduced;Proven communication skills.

If you have experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, Next.js, JS package managers (NPM, Yarn, pnpm), Git (branching, creating pull requests, resolving merge conflict), Bash and Linux, SSH, HTTP and REST, SQL and RDBMS schema design and performance optimization, and Kibana and Grafana, that's a bonus
