The Market Access (MA) Director effectively leads the MA and cross-functional teams by shaping the payer environment and delivering highly valued market access solutions to unlock the potential of our life changing medicines for patients, from early strategic thinking through maximizing access post launch.

The MA Director is responsible for designing and effectively executing across key strategic access pillars for prioritized brands, including the development, execution, and communication of local value propositions and access strategy, co-creation and co-execution of health economics and payer evidence strategy, optimal pricing strategies to maximize the launch and life cycle of AstraZeneca products, superior payer understanding and engagement, and design of novel payment mechanisms and tools for implementation where applicable.

The role is an active, contributing member of the Marketing Company Senior Management Team (SMT) with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate her/his team and foster effective cross-functional teamwork. Together with other SMT members, s/he is responsible for the creation and flawless execution of the long, medium
- and short-term access strategy for priority brands and accounts, and for co-creating a culture of commitment, innovation and entrepreneurship based on company values. The MA Director will also share accountability for the leadership, strategic direction, and business development of the local market, as well as for ensuring that the corresponding local market access activities are compliant, aligned with global strategy and sanctioned by the appropriate stakeholders.

The MA Director is directly accountable for the success and development of the prioritized brands’ access outcomes within the MC based on outstanding cross-functional work with clear accountabilities for key MC functional partners, including sales, marketing, commercial, medical, corporate affairs, and finance. S/he drives this through deep understanding of local health systems and payer stakeholders and identification of strategic opportunities and gaps to articulate payer-relevant value propositions though comprehensive negotiation strategies.

**Typical Accountabilities**
- Devises cross-functional short, medium, and access strategy for prioritized brands and accounts
- Maintains up to date knowledge of health system dynamics, payer landscapes, and relevant policies and regulations
- Gathers payers’ insights and understands value drivers through the development of consistent payer engagement plans based in updated mapping of end-to-end access pathways and decision-making processes
- Develops comprehensive, clear and compelling payer or archetype tailored value propositions -including duly approved novel payment mechanisms
- based on superior payer understanding and early identification of evidence, HTA, and HEOR data gaps. Works closely with Global and Regional Access teams to ensure customization of Global Access resources and tools to local needs
- Delivers locally relevant dossiers and leads listing / formulary inclusion negotiations along with Medical, Pricing, and Corporate Affairs, Legal, and Regulatory with an integrated account approach that seamlessly consolidates clinical, economic and financial data, while providing timely visibility for supply forecasting purposes
- Follows up closely on submissions to quickly resolve payer concerns/questions through cross-functional solutions
- Supports AZ’s external leadership objectives, working closely with Corporate Affairs and Medical to shape the external environment and forge external alliances as core elements to maximize patient access to innovative therapies
- Works cross-functionally and compliantly to develop a knowledge base and appropriate analytics to gather insights and continuously improve our access approach and field execution
- Efficiently administers resources, including appropriate planning and management of company-wide access resources and deployment of MA team across multiple activities to accomplish access and reimbursement goals
- Sets direction for team and standards for success, leading and inspiring diverse, cross-functional teams. Leads and develops access strategy, technical, and field teams to drive performance and results, through performance management, talent management and career development
- Effectively coaches team, delegating responsibilities and guiding individuals to enhance their performance and skills
- Guides team to ensure that governance is accurate and followed to ensure brand effectiveness outcomes are achieved
- Consistently displays behaviors related to AstraZeneca’s values of following the science, putting patients first, doing the right thing, and being entrepreneurial
