Johnson & Johnson is hiring for a
Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist
to join our team located in
Shockwave Medical Costa Rica.
Position Overview
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist supports the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of environmental programs and management systems at the Costa Rica site. In compliance with local, federal, and international environmental regulations, as well as ISO 14001 and internal company standards, this position assists in managing environmental compliance activities, audits, and sustainability initiatives. The Senior EH&S Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to environmental policies and procedures, supports certification requirements, and drives site-level improvements.

It also has the potential to support ISO 45001 implementation and maintenance in the future.
Essential Job Functions

• Environmental Management System (EMS) Support & Compliance.
• Assist in maintaining ISO 14001 requirements at the Costa Rica site.
• Ensure legal compliance requirements are fulfilled, driving environmental and sustainability improvements across the organization
• Support EMS documentation updates, procedure development, and EMS recordkeeping.
• Coordinate site-level management, review inputs and monitor progress toward environmental objectives.
• Audit & Assessment Support
• Participate in internal and external audits; prepare documentation and provide backroom support.
• Conduct site-level compliance assessments and identify improvement opportunities.
• Track audit findings and corrective actions to ensure timely resolution.
• Environmental Program Management
• Implement and monitor environmental compliance programs (waste, water, chemical management, etc.).
• Review environmental permits and ensure adherence to local regulatory requirements.
• Support sustainability initiatives and resource efficiency projects at the site.
• Data Analysis & Reporting
• Collect and analyze environmental performance metrics; prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify trends and recommend site-level improvements to reduce environmental impact.
• Training & Awareness
• Deliver environmental compliance and EMS training programs for site personnel.
• Promote environmental awareness and best practices across the Costa Rica facility.
• Future ISO 45001 Support
• Assist in planning and implementing Occupational Health & Safety Management System requirements under ISO 45001.
• Support integration of ISO 45001 with existing EH&S programs when applicable.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, 5-8 years of experience within an Environmental role, experience in clean room manufacturing a plus.
• Strong understanding of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standards and local environmental standards.
• Experience supporting audits/assessments and managing corrective actions.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
• Operate as a team and/or independently while demonstrating flexibility to changing requirements.
• Ability to work with a team to develop and implement effective environmental compliance strategies and management systems including management plans.
• Solve technical problems and develop solutions to meet environmental requirements.
• Proven ability to influence people without authority.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Bilingual (English/ Spanish). Professional proficiency level of english.
• Ability to travel 15–20% (international as needed)
• ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification
• There may be continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day).
