We are looking for a EHS Engineer II to join our talented team in Costa Rica.

SUMMARY:

  • Ensures that the Health Safety and Environmental Management System is established and deployed within Confluent Medical in accordance with recognized international standards.
  • Establishes targets and objectives related to EHS.
  • Manages EHS staff and provides strategic direction regarding organizational objectives. Communicates effectively with various internal and external key contacts such as insurance adjusters, attorneys and physicians to coordinate the settlement and processing of claims.
  • Is responsible for claim litigation management, disability management, rehabilitation management and medical management for Confluent Medical employees

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops departmental budgets, both operating and capital. Participates and compiles statistics in the preparation and control of department operating budgets.
  • Is responsible for and has the authority to ensure that the Health Safety and Environmental Management System (HSEMS) is established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007.
  • Reports to management on the performance of the Health Safety and Environmental Management System for review, including recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Manages EHS plans and programs.
  • Effectively communicates environmental health and safety strategy, initiatives, targets and objectives within Confluent Medical.
  • Provides proactive support on the development of local environmental health and safety procedures and ensures their subsequent implementation.
  • Manages routine reviews of plant. Ensures systematic review of identified areas of concern.
  • Creates and revises business practice documentation as appropriate.
  • Responds to and participates in corrective action implementation to observations identified in internal audits related to EHS.
  • Identifies and creates company policies and procedures to ensure safety and compliance to environmental control procedures, and QSR/ISO regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.
  • Trains Confluent Medical employees as required in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that an accurate chemical inventory is maintained and that associated governmental reporting is provided in a timely manner.
  • Is responsible to ensure compliance with all environmental permits and licenses required for Confluent Medical site operations (examples: industrial wastewater, stormwater, air permits).
  • Establishes EHS performance metrics, and provides associated reports to line management.
  • Provides effective leadership to EHS staff to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulatory requirements including but not necessarily limited to (OSHA, EPA, DOT, IATA, MPCA, IFC).
  • Supports the EHS staff on providing leadership for the sites Emergency Response Team (ERT) and First Response Teams (FRT), including training, policy deployment and drills.
  • Develops EHS databases for managing environmental health and safety target initiatives.
  • Effectively manages the EHS budget.
  • Attends to Facilities staff meetings.
  • Complete incident/accident assessments.
  • Informs to management on updates of standards and regulatory issues.
  • Supports HR with medical insurance documentation.
  • Leads and trains EHS staff as needed.
  • Expose EHS metrics to Facilities staff and site staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree required in occupational health engineering with 3+ years of related experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in clean rooms.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to lead and manage self-directed work teams.
  • Ability to audit areas identifies non-compliance to requirements, and develop/oversee action plans for corrective action.
  • Written and oral English communication skills required.
  • Able to read blueprints schematics and drawings.
  • Must understand and have ability to analyze production lines in order to detect EHS potential risks.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
