Senior Database Administrator

Job Summary

The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and installing databases while keeping security, performance, reliability, and uptime a priority. You will advise management on new solutions, process improvements, and finding new technologies to further improve our level of service. This position involves architecture definition, planning, technology direction, project management as well as mentoring of team members.

Evangelizes best practices for SQL Server, programming, performance tuning, data modeling, design, development, and documentation based on TransPerfect corporate policies, industry best practices, and customer-based business requirements.

We will look to you to maintain keen awareness of advanced technologies and incorporate these in our designs as appropriate.

**Responsibilities**:
The Senior Database Administrator will manage all database instances across development, staging, and production environments, handling installation, configuration, and maintenance. Monitor database performance, optimize query execution, and tune database parameters to ensure optimal efficiency and responsiveness.

They will Implement and enforce database security measures to protect sensitive data. Monitor database access, audit trails, and user privileges to ensure compliance with internal security policies, regulatory requirements, and all applicable legal requirements.

They will Create and maintain documentation, including database schemas, configuration settings, and standard operating procedures. Prepare reports on database performance, capacity, and system health for management and stakeholders.

They will collaborate with other teams, including developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to ensure seamless integration and efficient database operations. Share expertise and knowledge with team members through training sessions, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

**Required Skills**:

- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Index maintenance and statistics update.
- Strong understanding of database security principles and experience in implementing security measures. Knowledge of Azure security features is a plus.
- Solid understanding of SQL, T-SQL: Be able to write and improve SQL server T-SQL queries.
- Familiarity with database monitoring and performance-tuning tools.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools like PowerShell and Azure CLI to automate tasks in Azure.

Demonstrated proficiency in:

- Microsoft SQL database backup and recovery strategies and tools.
- Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
- Database migration on prem and on the cloud. Know how to use the Data Migration Assistant and interpret it.

Desired Skills
- Extensive SQL scripting (3-4+ years) supporting Microsoft SQL Server.
- PowerShell scripting experience.
- Administration of Windows Server environments.

- Strong customer service, interpersonal, written and oral communication, virtual communication, critical thinking.
- Experience with reporting tools like SSRS, Power BI and/or Tableau.
- Experience with ETL and ELT tools (SSIS, ADF).
