**Overall Purpose**

The Designer/Checker produces, updates, and checks CAD models and drawings for engineering product development and manufacturing use, performing a variety of drawing/drafting activities.

**Principal Responsibilities**
- Checks models and drawings created by other drafters and designers, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
- Checks, evaluates, approves, or rejects CAD drawings against design sketches, Engineering Change Requests, or other design documents.
- Ensures models and drawings conform to MPO drafting standards, ANSI drafting standards, as well as ASME GD&T standards.
- Updates, creates, and checks models and drawings per the requested changes within the ECR.
- Starts engineering change requests as needed; must be fluent with the ECR form and procedure.
- Carries out overlays for inspection, creates renders or other artwork for marketing purposes, and develops x-ray templates for doctors and assembly layouts.
- Estimates project completion times accurately with regards to model creation, drawings, and checking; keeps work statuses in the checking queue.

**Skills Requirements**
- Proficiency in English oral and written skills is necessary.
- Experience with PC based software such as Microsoft 365.
- Experience with Windows operating system.
- Experience with CAD file data manipulation and conversion to industry standards, preferably NX.
- Must be experienced with ANSI drafting standards, MPO drafting standards ASME GD&T Y14.5 1994, or later revision and department procedures.
- Ability to ensure work performed by other designers and drafters conforms to standards and adheres to the ECR or other design requests.

**Accountability**
- This position has a substantial amount of responsibility, ensuring that the creation of CAD models conform to standards and are correct. Decisions on how the incumbent creates the model are solely on him.
- The model creation process must be efficient to allow for its use by other departments and suppliers.
- The incumbent decides the layout of the drawing and placement of views and dimensions.
- The expectation of someone in this position is efficient time management and workload, ensuring models and drawings on schedule. Failure to meet schedules could result in product manufacturing delays, which would lead to a delayed launch of a product, consequently, would result in lost sales.
- Errors in models or drawings could cause product manufacturing delays or a scrap of products, which would result in time loss, money, and delay product being made available for sale.

**Education Requirements**

Education Required: Associate´s Degree (Grado Técnico or equivalent) in Engineering, Architecture or related degree.
Education Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or related degree.

**Experience Requirements**

Three (3) years of experience in mechanical design and drafting, including experience on a CAD system using drawing creation, solid modeling, and complex 3-D modeling techniques. At least 2 years of experience in checking drawings and models created by other drafters.
