- 3+ year(s) of experience in investigation, e-commerce, risk, escalation, case and/or account management.
- Work experience in HTS Classification for any country.
- Work experience in peer coaching, mentoring and/or training.
- B2 English proficiency.
Job summary
This is an hourly, full-time, permanent, back-office, position based in Costa Rica and does not offer relocation benefits. Job applicants must be located and legally authorized to work in Costa Rica in order to be eligible for consideration.
The Global Trade Process Expert, will use their knowledge in Trade Compliance programs and team SOPs (e.g. Trade Compliance classification, Customs Operations, Direct Import Compliance, Export Control classification, Broker Management and Express Carrier Management) to classify products with HTS and/or ECN codes, and to initiate process changes that drive metrics improvements, based on team goals. Will be assigned daily, weekly or monthly delivery targets and are able to move forward when SOPs and/or product information is unavailable or limited in scope.
The Process Expert will remain aware of and can identify regulatory or legislative changes, consequently that are able to make classification decisions (e.g., VAT value or customs duties) in your scope of work. Additionally, is responsible of disseminate legislative change details, perform related SOP changes, train the team on updates, and make sure they incorporate the changes into their work, support junior associates in resolving process cases that deviate from a typical workflow, or those not covered by SOP, draft and maintain workflows, work instructions, and SOPs for your team that align with team strategies.
Global Trade Process Experts are responsible for operational tasks to ensure import/export compliance with regulations in different countries in which Amazon operates, including Brazil, Canada, Mexico and United States.
Specific duties may include:
- Customs Broker requests management for Import Clearance for different marketplaces.
- Product review to ensure compliance with import laws, Trademark regulations and other import requirements.
- Interacting with internal customers to ensure timely resolution for imports.
- Determination of Product specifications required for lab testing to determine import viability.
- Other support activities to ensure compliance with local and US regulations for import/export processes.
- Determination of HTS Classification (for BR, CA, MX and US) and other country specifics, including BR and MX product type classification for risk assessment and BR CEST and EX-Tipi codes.
In addition to the operational responsibilities listed above, Global Trade Process ExpertsI will take on a larger organizational role progressively with a consistent growth through time. These tasks may include but are not limited to:
- Creation and maintenance of SOPs and Work Instructions.
- Flagging any updates received from stakeholders on process to Process Expert/Manager.
- Identification & implementation of improvement opportunities/automation to enhance process efficiency, quality and customer experience with measurable impact.
- Responsible for quality, root cause analysis on process & quality gaps and recommend corrective actions.
- Training and mentoring new hires and other associates, suggests improvements to training.
- Understanding of metrics, deep dive on KPIs, troubleshooting on reports and multiple data sources.
- Work with Amazon’s Global Trade Compliance team to execute strategy, seek automation opportunities and leverage technologies.
- Work with Amazon’s internal technology teams to develop creative and best-in-class trade compliance business processes that can scale up.
- Hiring process: This position requires a university bachelor's degree in process or concluded in Customs Administration and Foreign Trade Management. Job-applicants will be required to take an assessment on Manual Classification; Harmonized Tariff Schedule and other general Trade/Customs knowledge.
- Location: This is not a virtual position. Due to the current situation caused by COVID-19, if selected for this role, all necessary equipment will be sent for you to work from home. However, once our company provides clearance, you will be required to continue working from our SJO16 building E-22, located in the America Free Zone (AFZ), Cariari, Heredia.
- Schedule: this position requires schedule flexibility which includes but not limited to holidays. Our shifts available vary from 6:00am-3:00pm; 7:00am-4:00pm; 8:00am-5:00; 9:00am-6:00pm.
- Night and “graveyard” shifts are not available at this time.
- Training is fully paid.
