Your Role

  • A Project Director is part of a Studio's leadership team and is responsible for integrating design, management, and technical expertise on specific projects. A Project Director works in concert with other colleagues to achieve goals related to project quality and process while satisfying client requirements a hallmark of all Gensler projects.
  • A Project Director has primary responsibility for building and sustaining client relationships and, during the course of a project, will be involved with managing client relationships and project teams that may include a range of consultants and collaborators, internal and external. As a Studio's leadership team member, a Project Director based in a specific office will also collaborate with other practice leaders within that Region and across the firm's platform to develop projects that achieve distinctiveness and recognition for clients and the firm.
  • What You Will Do
  • Work in conjunction with our Studio Directors and Other Directors in the Studio, Office, and Region.
  • Lead the creative efforts on client architecture projects, developing overall design concepts and design presentation strategies.
  • Provide mentorship and development of staff, as well as fiscal oversight of projects.
  • Mentor and develop Gensler junior members and provide creative & strategic direction to the teams.
  • Act as the primary interface with clients and consultants, representing Gensler at meetings and presentations.
  • Nurture existing client relationships and develop new ones.
  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts.
  • Collaborate with team members and colleagues to promote an interdisciplinary design approach and philosophy.
  • Actively mentor and teach through formal and informal activities, which typically include working collaboratively and supporting the development of our expat and local staff members and any other related responsibility as assigned.
  • Implement one or more client projects through the leadership of project teams; Provide leadership to client and team by communicating project objectives, contract scope, terms, and schedule.
  • Manage scheduling, budgets, staffing, and project setup with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and contractors.
  • Prepare project proposals, negotiate contracts and fees, and bid projects to multiple general contractors.
  • Track and manage the financial performance of the project for success (e.g., work plan, schedule, fees, change orders, billings, and collections).
  • Manage project lifecycle, estimating, bidding, project kickoff, weekly coordination, punch list, turnover, opening, and project closeout.
  • Integrate multiple disciplines and processes to deliver design excellence.
  • Prioritize design excellence and show results with a strong focus on design as an ultimate firm product.
  • Understands and proactively advances GC3 goals in collaboration with resilience and sustainability specialists.
  • Leverage our Design Technology ecosystem to deliver design excellence.
Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • 15+ years of related project management experience on a range of architecture projects.
  • Experience developing relationships with new and existing clients that would enhance Gensler's competitive advantage and positioning in targeted market sectors.
  • Experience in the development and direction of significant corporate/office projects, including those with "design excellence" criteria.
  • Experience with collaborative management of a corporate/office practice group or studio.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to develop collaborative relationships that lead to successful results, whether within the firm (and across the platform of multiple offices) or externally with clients, consultants, and other key participants in the design and development process.
  • Proven ability in creative strategy development and innovative problemsolving.
  • Management approach and methodology consistent with collaboration, consensus, and process oriented design.
  • Strong presentation skills (written, oral, and graphic), with the ability to be articulate and convincing in interviews and other presentations.
  • A commitment to the principles of sustainable design and experience integrating them into specific projects.
  • Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrate leadership by motivating employees to reach their potential.
  • Maintain a positive team environment by creating programs to boost morale.
  • Provide staff members with an "opendoor policy" to allow individuals to feel free to communicate with you and other members of the management team.
  • Build staff capabilities through programs that improve individual skills and develop enhanced management and communication.
