Job Description:

Work Overview:

To lead and supervise the collections team in Costa Rica, ensuring timely and effective recovery of accounts receivable, while maintaining compliance with local regulations and fostering positive customer relationships. The role focuses on reducing overdue balances, improving cash flow, and implementing efficient collection processes.

Key Responsibility:

Supervise, train, and motivate the local collections team, ensuring high performance and adherence to company policies.

Oversee and ensure the proper execution of the Dunning Process by coordinating, assigning, and prioritizing tasks for the collections team and external suppliers on a daily and weekly basis.

Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts to minimize bad debt.

Ensure quick processing and resolution of customer disputes within a maximum timeframe of 7 days, in coordination with Sales, Customer Service/Documentation, logistics and Finance teams.

Lead the container financial release process by ensuring that all import customers without credit are effectively supported through timely invoicing, accurate payment guidance, and proactive follow-up. This includes, but is not limited to, verifying compliance with guaranteed deposits, upfront payments, and subsequent monitoring.

Verify that import credit customers are properly reviewed and up to date with their credit limits before authorizing container releases; proactively notify the Commercial team of any potential holds or retention risks due to credit issues.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on invoicing accuracy and dispute resolution processes, reducing recurrent issues and improving customer satisfaction.

Conduct credit granting assessments and evaluations, applying proper credit risk rating methodologies, and provide well-structured recommendations to management.

Coordinate and manage at least one third-party external collection agency, overseeing legal disputes, settlements, and strategies for outstanding recovery.

Prepare and submit weekly outstanding reports to Head Office, highlighting risks, collection actions, and progress.

Develop and implement strategies to optimize, automate collection processes and improve DSO (Days Sales Outstanding).

Manage escalations, negotiate payment agreements, and recommend accounts for legal action when necessary.

Ensure compliance with Costa Rican financial regulations, data privacy laws, and MSC's internal audit policies.

Support regional/regional/global finance/automation projects and share best practices across teams.

Qualifications and Experience:

Key Experience & Qualifications & Skill :

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Minimum 3–5 years of experience in collections, with at least 2 years in a supervisory position.

Shipping & logistics knowledge industry highly desirable

Strong knowledge of Costa Rican collection laws and regulations.

Experience in credit risk assessment and third-party collection agency management.

Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with ERP systems such as SAP.

Strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills.

Advanced Spanish required, English proficiency required.
