Engineering Director

**TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Operate as a key member of the leadership team to establish collective priorities and remove barriers to progress. Crafting, aligning and executing the Engineering strategy and annual plan to support and deliver strategic business objectives.
- Plans, executes, directs and supervises the technical activities and functions on the site in order to meet the objectives as agreed for all PS functions at the Alajuela site.
- Engage with internal and external customers and regulators, as the face of Engineering, to ensure stakeholder needs are aligned with operational execution, intervening as appropriate to resolve engineering concerns.
- Establish and continuously develop a large technically diverse organization, to deliver effective and efficient work performance. Providing general Governance & direction setting, empowering employees and fostering strong cooperation and teamwork.
- Efficient and transparent financial planning and controlling. Controlling engineering costs in line with agreed budgetary constraints and implementing permanent appropriate corrective actions to protect operations profitability.
- Ensure Business continuity, through optimized asset lifecycle management, ensuring safe, compliant and reliable operation and maintenance management practices.
- Develop, Implement & sustain Maintenance & Calibration Programs, through the appropriate computerized Maintenance Management systems (SAP FAM), to provide daily operational management and control of equipment, resource, spare parts, work scheduling etc.
- Manage site capital investment planning, technology improvement initiatives and project deliverables to agreed timelines and budgets, to realise operational performance benefits.
- Ensure optimized planning and execution of large investments and turn-arounds, to ensure maximum productivity.
- Maintain effective end-to-end process control mechanisms, standard work and visual performance metrics to maintain daily control, and deliver breakthrough performance in safety, GMP compliance, quality, cost and customer service.
- Develop and implement robust and cost competitive contract solutions and service requirements for Internal and external service providers, ensuring availability of the essential resource and skills needed to support the sites technical activities.
- Proactively participates in experience exchange and knowledge transfer between the site technical managers.
- Plays an active role in the Global Engineering community and promotes learning exchange with the team globally.
- Has responsibility for people development in the site's technology community and for exchange of talents across Bayer sites.

**WHO YOU ARE**
- University degree in any Engineering discipline (BSc or advanced) or another appropriate scientific discipline or advanced education with experience in Life Sciences Industry. (mandatory).
- At least 10 years combined experience in engineering, manufacturing or quality; with a proven track record of working in both project and operations / maintenance management within the Life Sciences Industry. (mandatory)
- Languages: Spanish (Desired) and English Proficiency, domain 100%. (mandatory).
- International or at least working experience at different sites / companies are beneficial.
- Strong and proven technical background, with profound knowledge in internal and external technical best practices and standards.
- Strong and proven quality mindset, with in depth knowledge of GMP regulatory requirements and technical compliance needs.
- Strong experience in Asset management; Performance Management of equipment through data analytics and KPI monitoring, driving optimized safety and reliability of assets through technical lifecycle improvements and progressive maintenance.
- Strong business acumen, enabling site strategy development through business and market needs.
- Strong experience in all aspects of financial planning and controlling associated with OpEx and CapEx management.
- Advanced project management skills.
- Excellent and proven leadership skills. Ability to steer and motivate a multidisciplinary / complex / multinational team, taking clear, objective, and agile decision making.
- Comprehensive understanding of systems, procedures and processes associated with operations and maintenance of a plant / site.
- Very good knowledge of engineering tools and skills in technical software.
- Lean six sigma / Operational Excellence knowledge and focus on continuous improvement and innovation. (Desired).
