Software Development Engineer, Aws Support, Kumo

2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design - 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems. Job summary AWS Kumo software team is looking for an innovative and customer-obsessed engineer to develop communication channels AWS customers use to reach AWS Support. You will be part of a journey to bring support to where our customers are, providing them with the most relevant help and the least interruption to their workflow. The Role You will be part of a start-up team within AWS Support, building a timely, relevant, and personalized communication channel for our customers during operational events. Your work will impact our customers at a time when they need to hear from us the most. You will innovate on our customers’ behalf a secure and scalable way for AWS experts to communicate with our customers and help them through these events. Your product will need to meet the highest bar for security and availability, and be working flawlessly when AWS itself may be experiencing events. You will work closely with a team of engineers and product manager, iterating fast toward a Minimum Lovable Product. You will exercise creativity and judgment about what existing software components to leverage and what new ones to build. You will perform architectural design and dive into code to execute on the design. You will help hire and grow the team, mentoring junior engineers. As a founding member of the team you will be a crucial part of developing its vision. Our public-facing properties include AWS Trusted Advisor, AWS Health, Automation, Recommendations & Insights, AWS Support Center, AWS Knowledge center, and many more. Our internal AWS Support teams rely on Kumo services to interact with AWS customers, diagnose and resolve customer issues, and safely share information across AWS teams. These services must work seamlessly, and be available when AWS services are not. Any changes to these tools has a force multiplicative effect on how customers experience AWS and the efficiencies of the internal workforce. - Experience building solutions using AWS services - Experience in developing systems architecture within distributed systems - Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project - Strong knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis - Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs - Experience mentoring junior software development engineers and driving engineering excellence
