The SAM program plays a critical role in software compliance assurance, software rationalization and consolidation, cost management, and employee empowerment. In this role, you are at the nexus for pulling together software usage and inventory data, contract entitlements, financial spend, and organizational insights to how software is used in the company. There is ample opportunity to work across interdependent teams - including sourcing and category management, procurement, Enterprise engineering and product development, legal, security, finance, business intelligence, and numerous internal customer groups - to continuously innovate and provide actionable information that reduces risk, saves cost, and improves the internal customer experience for Amazon knowledge workers.
You will oversee day-to-day operations of the SAM environment, including detailed understanding and oversight of data sources for inventory usage, contract entitlement data maintenance, user management and enablement, data integrity, compliance analysis, renewal/milestone calendaring, and innovative reporting solutions. Leveraging a detailed understanding of software usage and trends will also allow for data mining and analysis to identify cost savings and product consolidation opportunities.
You should possess strong technical and analytical skills, the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, a work ethic based on a desire to exceed expectations, and excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral communication.
Key job responsibilities
- Accountable for software management activities (Loading software purchases into asset management platform, demand management, renewals, entitlement and deployment reporting)
- Support cost-savings initiatives within Software space by identifying and enforcing SAM best practices for license efficiency.
- Overview compliance with contractual and licensing models for select software products
- Identify issues, improvement opportunities, and risks for escalation
- Identify key data requirements and information throughout the organization
- Coordinates with other stakeholders to resolve complex licensing queries and issues
- Deep understanding of licensing models, contracts, and pricing arrangements
- Optimizes consumption to maximize value of spend
- Serve as a SAM team cross-functional resource across multiple business units, both within Corporate IT and cross-functionally with finance, legal, tax and procurement teams.
- Partner with Software Product Manager(s) to execute on vendor-specific strategies, especially for key vendor multi-year/long term relationships.
- Improve overall organizational capability through systems, processes, and talent development.
- Work closely with a team of ITS Program/Product Managers to drive the collection and implementation of technology requirements, ensure alignment with corporate objectives and contractual obligations.
A day in the life
Familiarity with software licensing concepts and formats, including on-premise, server/infrastructure, SaaS/cloud.
Strong operational business understanding of technology supply chain, including purchase ordering, expense reporting, procurement/sourcing, provisioning and reclamation, renewals, and contract management.
Sourcing/procurement experience, including deal negotiation and contract management.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Software vendor relationship management experience.
Project management, user training, and education/training experience.
Prior experience with software audit processes and effectively delivering results.
Experience leveraging business intelligence solutions for intuitive reporting.
Technical systems experience with API integration, data import/export automation, user management, and AWS technologies.
