The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical

components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles. The

Silent-Aire. The incumbent will collaborate with the senior departmental engineers in executing all

aspects of a variety of challenging and innovative projects.

**Essential Functions**
- Provide technical design support to the engineering department with specific focus on
- mechanical design engineering. A good understanding of Electrical, Structural, and Controls engineering is a benefit.
- Take a leading role in project execution and be involved in many aspects of the business including support for sales, estimating, procurement, manufacturing/production, and service.
- Interact with clients to source technical information, or as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) as it pertains to Silent-Aire products and performance.
- Interact with vendors to assess and source availability, performance, cost, and lead-time of viable components.
- Development of new and innovative product lines and refinement of existing products.
- Coach, mentor, and lead project teams, including Engineers in Training.
- Design, develop, and test Air Handling Units (AHUs) and Modular Data Centers (MDCs) products including:

- Review client project documents including specifications, plans, details, and schedules.
- Design of custom computer room AHUs and MDCs to client requirements.
- Create unit Sequence of Operations (SOO) for collaboration with Controls Engineering.
- Select third party components (ex. fans, coils, etc ) for use in Silent-Aire products.
- Cost estimating of units - involves sourcing component and materials cost and leadtimes.
- Production of equipment drawings and performance submittal packages.
- Specialize in applied mechanical design, Psychrometrics, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, and Thermodynamics, applicable codes and standards, and HVAC industry design practices.
- Ensure designs are safe, efficient, effective, and practical.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to make sure product designs meet the requirements of the project.
- Interact with production; perform periodic inspections of units under construction. Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance, improvements, or rejection of completed designs and manufactured units prior to leaving the plant.
- Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality of engineering services. Participate in continuous product improvement.
- Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.
- Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross functional collaboration.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation in line with Silent-Aire standards.
- Collaborate with other departments (ex. other engineering disciplines, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, IT, Plant, Service etc.) to ensure project success.

**What we look for:
**Required**
- Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.).
- Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation.
- Five or more years of related experience.
- 5+ years of related experience in HVAC design required, including knowledge in equipment and system selection, design, and control. Additional experience in metal fabrication and/or manufacturing is an asset.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD software is essential.
- A bility to integrate new technologies into machines.
- A bility to converse and collaborate with clients, vendors, and multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
- Competence in designing according to industry codes and standards.
- Proven track record in managing large projects including project budgets.
- Practical experience with risk management, product design and testing, estimating, and project management.
- Highly motivated and self-directed, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with mínimal supervision.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

**Preferred**
