Java Software Engineer

This Software Developer II (Java) position within the GEO-IS Solutions department involves collaborating with a dedicated team of developers to enhance customer service and operational efficiency. Our department focuses on delivering innovative solutions that empower our operations through:
- Web-Based Applications
- API Integrations
- Data Analytics
- Process Automation
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and sustain robust applications that align with enterprise architectural standards.
- Implement cybersecurity measures and adhere to corporate development protocols.
- Work closely with the development team and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and success.
Essential Duties:
- Utilize industry-standard software development methodologies (SDLC) to produce high-quality applications.
- Identify potential risks and uphold cybersecurity standards throughout the development process.
- Share knowledge and expertise with team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Deploy optimized code and monitor performance metrics to ensure application efficiency.
- Conduct thorough code reviews and unit testing to guarantee timely delivery of quality solutions.
- Translate complex business requirements into actionable technical tasks.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and version control.
- Identify and implement strategies to minimize technical debt and maintenance overhead.
- Collaborate to establish and promote best practices within the team.
- Provide training to end-users and stakeholders for effective solution utilization.
- Support agile methodologies and keep project management tools updated.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Java programming with Spring Boot and component-based development.
- Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- Proficient in object-oriented programming and component-based design using Java.
- Familiarity with Python, Angular, Kafka, Spring, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, XML, JMS, and various database technologies.
- Experience with Agile development practices and code versioning tools (e.g., Git, GitLab).
- Proficient in using Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEs along with associated plugins, Maven, and Nexus.
- Able to work effectively within a cross-functional development team.
- Self-motivated with a strong customer service orientation and excellent time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of Expeditors' products and services within the freight forwarding sector.
- Experience with UI/UX design principles.
- Oracle Java certification.
- SAFe or Agile certification.
