**Your Role and Responsibilities**
The Workplace Virtualization Specialist has expert level skills in one or more Virtualization technologies, both on-premise, 3rd party DC and/or in Cloud.
This includes common Virtualization tools from VMware, Citrix or Microsoft.
Individuals in this job role acts as a technical escalation point (SME) for the Workplace Virtualization Systems Management Specialists and provide technical leadership to internal delivery teams, customers and Customer Account Teams regarding all technical discussions, major incidents, complex RFS activities etc.
They also work closely with customers to review the IT environment, work on remediating technological gaps, develop remediation plans and provide technical recommendations.
Workplace Virtualization SMEs are responsible to ensure the stability of the customer's Virtualization environment and review and implement any changes to the environment as required with minimum to no impact to customer business.
They lead the resolution of all major incidents in the customer's Virtualization environment and provide technical resolution within the agreed SLA timeframe.
Responsibilities
- Know all SLA's involving WVS support/services on the account
- Stay within the contractually obligated scope of service while identifying potential new business for IBM
- Troubleshoot all issues within scope of support
- When appropriate, coordinate other support groups and/or vendors to resolve the issue(s)
- Keep tickets updated with accurate and timely updates
- Close tickets in a timely manner with complete and accurate notes and ticket coding
- Participate in customer problem, incident, and change systems
- Assist teammates in Problem Determination
- Participate/follow in customer change management processes
- Perform in scope contractual patching and maintenance
- Perform in scope contractual changes and configuration to the infrastructure
- Become a SME in one (or more) WVS technologies
- Escalate issues to ASL and DPL as needed
**Required Technical and Professional Expertise**
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Fluent in English
- Able to articulate technical issues and resolutions using non-technical language for understanding.
- Knowledge of Incident, Problem, and Change process
- Knowledge of Citrix/VMware/Windows virtual desktop solutions to include components and configuration
- Knowledge of client ticketing system and support tools (when applicable)
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex VDI related issues
- Implement VMware Horizon
- Implement VMware vSphere
- Implement VMware Software Defined deployments (vSAN/NSX)
- Ability to troubleshoot and triage an outage situation and work with multiple teams to determine root cause and outline future preventative actions
- Determine root cause and outline future preventative actions
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
- Knowledge of problem and change management tools
- Excellent teamwork skills balanced with the ability to work independently
- Knowledge of Apple based operating systems, components and configurations
- Knowledge of the device management middleware tool/solution (e.g.
Intune, Jamf Pro, etc.)
- Knowledge of macOS packaging tools.
- Knowledge of OS Scripting Languages (e.g.
VBS, PowerShell, Python, Bash, AppleScript, etc.)
- Knowledge of patch management.
- Knowledge of Virtualization Platforms (e.g., VMware Workstation/vCenter/ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, Oracle VirtualBox, etc.)
- Knowledge of Device Drivers
- Problem determination and remediation
- Knowledge of Apple Business Manager (DEP), Enterprise AppStore, Cloud data backup, etc.
**Preferred Technical and Professional Experience**
- More than 2 years of experience in support of Virtual environment infrastructure
- VMware Horizon implementation knowledge
- VMware vSphere implementation knowledge
- VMware Software Defined deployments (vSAN/NSX) implementation knowledge
- Microsoft Windows Server implementation knowledge
- Windows Virtual Desktop implementation knowledge
- Lakeside Systrack and/or Riverbed Aternity implementation knowledge
