The Opportunity
This job is based in our Alajuela location. In Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) business, we're making strides in the treatment of heart disease using innovative medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, helping individuals improve their health and carry on with their daily lives.
As the Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing cost-effective manufacturing processes in line with product specifications and quality standards. You will also identify and execute improvements to production processes and controls, oversee installation and validation of production lines, and manage equipment lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Daily support for manufacturing operations to meet safety, quality, cost, and production targets.
- Utilize key performance indicators data to maintain control over metrics such as yield, nonconforming materials, and lead-time.
- Prepare detailed product and process reports by analyzing information and trends.
- Apply statistical techniques to inform decision-making and derive insights from available data.
- Understand product cost components and interactions to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Lead installation and validation activities for new and existing production lines, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Identify and procure equipment and fixtures considering production needs and vendor relations.
- Ensure production output meets product specifications and oversee the implementation of new manufacturing systems.
- Maintain compliance with regulations and provide support for training programs.
- Contribute to cross-functional project teams and research new technologies to enhance manufacturing processes.
- Participate in root cause analysis for non-conforming products and drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, production, and cost.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Engineering fields such as Electronic, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Chemical.
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing/process development, with at least 5 years in medical devices manufacturing.
- Proficiency in statistical techniques (DOE, SPC) with a PE license considered a bonus.
- Familiarity with computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point) and willingness to travel.
- Experience in continuous improvement methodologies and knowledge of FDA, GMP, and ISO guidelines.
- Expertise in leading validation plans and root cause problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to manage cross-functional project teams and fluency in English and Spanish.
- Full-time on-site availability in Coyol, Alajuela with a shift schedule (Monday to Friday 3:30:00 pm -10:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am to 3:30 pm).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in performance management is desired.
