Mid - Senior AEM Frontend Developer

Job purpose:

We are hiring a Frontend Developer with advanced AEM component development experience and strong proficiency in React to join our digital production team. This is a high-impact role for a mid to senior-level developer passionate about building reusable, scalable, and accessible frontend solutions within the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) ecosystem.

You'll collaborate closely with UI/UX designers, backend developers, and product stakeholders to deliver robust digital experiences that meet performance, accessibility, and user engagement goals.

• Location: Remote (company entity based in Costa Rica; must be able to work a UTC-6 schedule)
• Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Costa Rica time zone, UTC-6
• Job Type: Full-time position / Contractor
• Language Proficiency: Professional proficiency in Spanish and English (B2+ reading, writing & conversation)

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain custom AEM components and editable templates following AEM best practices.
• Build modular, responsive, and accessible React-based UIs using modern frontend technologies (HTML5, CSS3, SASS/LESS, JavaScript ES6+).
• Translate high-fidelity UI/UX designs from Figma or Adobe XD into pixel-perfect frontend code.
• Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility with a mobile-first approach.
• Collaborate with Creative, Business, Technology, and QA teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, punctual web development.
• Integrate RESTful APIs and collaborate with backend and DevOps teams for seamless data flow and deployments.
• Implement WCAG-compliant accessibility standards and SEO-optimized structures.
• Conduct peer code reviews, manage version control with Git, and contribute to CI/CD workflows.
• Participate in all Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, stand-ups, retrospectives).
• Analyze and optimize code for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot and debug frontend issues, delivering clear root cause analysis and resolution.
• Reduce technical debt through proactive refactoring and architectural improvements.
• Deliver task estimates and progress updates to senior engineers or technical leads.
  

Required academic background

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.

Required skills and experience

• 4–7 years of experience in frontend development, with a strong focus on AEM and React.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience building custom AEM components (Sightly/HTL, dialogs, Sling Models).
• Advanced skills including hooks, state management, and component architecture.
• Proficiency with modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and preprocessors (SASS/LESS).
• Experience with frontend tooling such as Webpack, Babel, and package managers (NPM/Yarn).
• Work experience integrating with APIs, external web services, and content management systems.
• Fluency with data transfer formats and protocols (JSON, XML, HTTP).
• Experience with automation and pre-processing tools (Gulp, SASS, LESS).
• Ability to build proof-of-concept prototypes and optimize code for performance.
  
• Familiarity with Java/JSP for backend integration in AEM (preferred, not required).
• Solid understanding of responsive design principles and design systems.
• Familiarity with design systems, reusable components, and design translation using Figma or similar tools.
• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments with Git-based workflows (feature branching, pull requests).
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate technical ideas clearly in English (B2+ or higher).
  

Nice to have

• Knowledge of server-side rendering (SSR) techniques with or similar frameworks.
• Familiarity with GraphQL or headless CMS architectures.
• Experience in performance monitoring and optimization tools (Lighthouse, WebPageTest, New Relic).
• Exposure to automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or Playwright.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
• Previous work in digital agencies or fast-paced product teams with distributed teams.
