Job Overview

The Senior Unix Systems Engineer will oversee the documentation, deployment, and troubleshooting of the entire IT Unix ecosystem, which encompasses AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server. Key competencies include expertise in Linux and AIX operating systems, x86 hypervisors, automation scripting, and x86 hardware solutions, particularly IBM P series hardware, along with proficiency in Ansible, patch management, and security hardening practices.

Collaborating with a team of Unix specialists, this role serves as a Subject Matter Expert in their domain, providing support for the Experian Unix Environment. Responsibilities include managing OS support tickets, addressing incidents, remediating vulnerabilities, and implementing compute and storage modifications. Adherence to change management protocols is essential, as is acting as a liaison to other departmental teams for expert guidance in server management, high availability, security, virtualization, and operating systems technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or engage in the design, development, and execution of intricate system engineering initiatives that require cross-functional technical support, systems programming, and data center capabilities.
  • Accountable for components of highly complex engineering and analytical tasks and activities.
  • Recognized as a technology subject matter expert, capable of articulating and delivering sophisticated technology solutions to diverse audiences, including technical teams, management, business executives, and vendors.
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Information Technology or relevant technology certifications preferred, or substantial equivalent experience.
  • Over 5 years of experience in systems engineering.
  • Advanced experience with Red Hat Linux OS.
  • Proficient in SUSE Linux.
  • In-depth knowledge of SAN-based disk solutions and their configurations.
  • Advanced skills in Shell scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation using Ansible and Terraform.
  • Familiarity with tools such as BladeLogic, DNT, ESM, and vSphere client is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with IBM AIX OS is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pSeries AIX server models and HMC Consoles.
  • Understanding of AIX, VIO, microcode, and firmware upgrades.
  • Ability to lead projects and act as a leader within a distributed team.
  • Familiarity with AWS is a plus.
  • Provide technical and break-fix support for Operating Systems.
  • Strong experience in Red Hat Linux administration across RHEL6, RHEL7, RHEL8, Red Hat Clustering, VMware, and ESX.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills to engage with team members, clients, vendors, and leadership.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently while also excelling in team collaboration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including 24-hour on-call duties and weekend overnight shifts.
