Job Description

At Uptalent, we're seeking an experienced Automation Control Systems Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for designing custom, state-of-the-art electronic and DDC control systems that meet our clients' plans and specifications.

This is a junior-level position, and we're looking for someone who is eager to learn and grow with our company. You'll work closely with our project sales and production teams to ensure that each solution is implemented on schedule, in a cost-effective and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Requirements and Risks Understanding
    • Attend sales turnover meetings to gain knowledge of the sales estimate and project scope
    • Analyze project plans, specifications, sales estimates, and sales proposals
    • Create a list of project engineering deliverables (submittals, workflow packages, etc.)
    • Generate Request For Information (RFI) requests
  • Final Product Design and Communication
    • Create controls drawings utilizing ACAD software that include flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, schedules, and electrical schematics as required
  • Installation Method and Materials Selection
    • Select the appropriate mix of products and installation methods to provide the most cost-effective solution that complies with the project specification, applicable codes, and company standards
  • Control Valve and Actuator Selection
    • Select the proper control valves and actuators that will do the best job of controlling the process, showing a preference for control valves manufactured by Honeywell
    • Complete and submit a comprehensive and accurate control valve schedule in a timely manner
  • BMS Communication Network Design
    • Determine network architecture, topology, and transmission media that is appropriate for the installation and conforms to the latest network standards and project specification
    • Select network components (such as servers, switches, routers) that support operator workstations, DDC field panels, third-party integration devices connected via Lonworks, Ethernet, Modbus, or BACnet communication protocols
    • Produce network wiring diagrams and network addressing documents that provide a clear picture of the design in a timely manner
  • Customer Approval and Procurement
    • Prepare submittal documents that demonstrate that the proposed materials, etc., are in compliance with the contract drawings and specification
    • Work closely with the project manager to ensure successful procurement of electrical subcontractors
Requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) software
  • Knowledge of Autodeck AutoCAD software
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory
  • Knowledge of the elements and building blocks of HVAC controls
  • Knowledge of damper actuator and control valve sizing and selection
  • Knowledge of the control strategies and logic that can be used to provide optimum operation of plant-level HVAC systems (such as chillers, boilers, and air handlers)
  • Knowledge of the control strategies and logic that can be used to provide optimum operation of supplemental HVAC systems (such as VAV boxes, fan coil units, and unit heaters)
  • Knowledge of supervisory control strategies for the overall operation of the BMS (such as life safety control, electrical demand control, etc.)
  • Knowledge of BMS communication protocols and network topologies
  • General understanding of how these protocols are implemented, with specific knowledge of installation and configuration best practices
  • Knowledge of Honeywell DDC product offerings
  • Knowledge of the company's design standards and processes
Estimated Salary Range

$60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
