As part of our expansion plans as a growing, global organization, we have established a Shared Services Center in Costa Rica, which commenced operations in December 2020.
We are based in the beautiful province of Heredia and operate from a We Work building with excellent co-working space. However, most of our global team members in Costa Rica work exclusively from home.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Database Administrator will be responsible for performing full administration and optimization of our database servers to achieve the following:
- Availability: data must be accessible via direct queries, reporting tools, replication, and web queries against database servers, with performance meeting business expectations.
- Replication knowledge is essential, as well as clustering knowledge.
Strong knowledge of backups and best practices is required, including Ola Hallengren scripts. Additionally, strong knowledge of SQL Server security and security best practices down to the object level is desired, along with knowledge of proxy accounts, agent operators, and credentials for secure implementation of service accounts.
Upkeeping requires strong knowledge of SQL Server patch levels and best practices, including the ability to test patch levels and implementation in a lab environment, with experience covering SQL Server versions 2012 to 2019.
Duties and SkillsClosely following primary duties include resolving Jira tickets for developer issues and production incidents using Jira.
The following skills are required:
- T-SQL skills are essential, although not at an expert/developer level; sufficient to effectively query DMVs and create/debug diagnostic T-SQL scripts and understand stored procedures.
- Some Azure skills are desirable, with a willingness to learn and become proficient in Azure over time.
- Good documentation skills (Jira, Confluence, Excel, or other) and adherence to these processes.
- Good Excel skills.
- Ability to collaborate in a DBA team, requiring clear communication skills.
- Personal habits such as timely communication about important events and punctuality for meetings.
- Willingness and drive to learn more and grow.
The ideal candidate should have:
- 3-5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA.
- Strong administration and tuning experience.
- Experience covering SQL Server versions 2012 to 2019.
