**Sourcing Engineer**

**Job Description**:
The Sourcing Engineer will be a key member of the Supply Chain team working with the Engineering teams to establish integration of key suppliers into the New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering activities.
We are seeking an individual who has experience working in a cross functional team environment with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing to identify, qualify and validate new parts, new technologies and new suppliers to help reduce risk and cost over the new products' life cycle.
The position will have responsibility for providing sourcing leadership for new product development in a cross functional team environment, which would include cost & capital management (TCO), risk assessment and mitigation, supplier selection, supplier management throughout the product development process, and on-going process improvements to speed quoting and product development.
This position will report to the Global Director of Supply Chain but be embedded with our Development Engineering teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Become an integral member of the product development team as a SME on component and vendor options and their impact on achieving design goals, and quality, availability, manufacturability, and cost expectations.
- Translate customer and internal drawings and requirement documents into a component sourcing strategy that will result in reduced risks and optimal cost over the product lifecycle.
- Ensures the clarity of engineering drawing requirements for new parts and that all expectations are communicated effectively to suppliers.
- Work closely with suppliers to enlist their support in developing solutions that meet project requirements.
- Negotiate initial component cost, tooling costs, minimum order quantities and lead times in alignment with global supply chain strategy.
- Negotiate component cost, tooling costs, MOQ, lead times, and the delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Review, collect and record initial component and supplier compliance with REACH, ROHS, SVHC, PROP 65, etc.
- Coordinate design reviews and lead communications with Engineering and Suppliers to assure that components meet design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Deliver rapid and reasonably accurate cost and budget projections, with the ability to justify decisions based on data and experience.
- Strive to reduce supply chain, production and quality risk, and total landed material cost through the NPI phases and product lifecycle.
- Investigate alternate component technologies for reduced cost or improved quality and reliability and implement changes.
- Validate supplier capability and capacity and align critical component supply with program ramp schedules.
- Active involvement in the Supplier Selection Process to develop a supply base that provides competitive advantage in quality, value, delivery, and technology.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent discipline.
- 5 years professional experience in procurement, engineering, or supply chain.
- 2+ years of experience interfacing with engineers on critical aspects of product design.
- Experience in an FDA regulated medical device company preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to drive positive outcomes with creative solutions to sourcing and supplier development.
- Great interpersonal, project management and presentation skills with the ability to clearly present recommendations and ideas and to summarize complex issues.
- Ability to read and understand engineering specification, drawings, and technical reports.
- Working knowledge of Product Development (Milestone/Stage Gate) process and requirements for First Article Inspection Reporting for Supplier Quality Assessment
- Working knowledge of MRP in a global ERP (i.e., Infor).
- Well-developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter and effective time manager.
Ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing)
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as necessary.
